RESTORING DIGNITY.
ENDING HUMAN TRAFFICKING.
Human trafficking is an issue that touches far too many lives in the United States, and particularly Michigan, which reports the 6th most cases in the country to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. As state representative, I was proud to vote to ban human trafficking and to tighten penalties for traffickers. In addition, I am supportive of the steps the county has taken to combat human trafficking locally. As County Executive, I will work with law enforcement to bring traffickers to justice, and will make helping survivors and preventing people from falling victim to human trafficking a priority.
Starting on day one, I will make sure that survivors have access to the resources they need to get back on their feet, from health coverage to housing. In particular, survivors will have access to PTSD coverage and services that can restore physical well-being.
In addition, I will work to promote the county’s human trafficking work, making sure that underserved communities understand the purpose of the commission and how to best contact them. I will particularly ensure that any materials from the commission are printed in multiple languages, such as Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Arabic, so that every community is aware of their rights and resources when confronted by human trafficking.
