On Day One as Executive, Oakland County will make providing universal access to healthcare for our 71,000 uninsured residents, half of whom are children, a top priority. Leveraging current investment and expanding direct care provided by the County at a series of satellite locations, as Oakland County Executive I will work to provide universal access to healthcare for all uninsured residents across Oakland County. One of the wealthiest counties in the country should do no less. I will oversee a modernization and best-practice benchmarking for our county mental health system to make certain that everyone suffering from mental illness or developmental disabilities receives the care and compassion they deserve, and that people with mental illness, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders are diverted from jail and the criminal justice system.
